Amy James

M Div., Registered Psychotherapist

For as long as I can remember I have been curious and relational. Curious, mostly, about humanity, our likes, dislikes, ways of behaving, and the meaning we make. Relational in seeking warm, nurturing spaces for all. Growing up I asked why endlessly, and continue to relish opportunities to learn, grow, and shift paradigms. Diverse studies and living in both small towns and large cities across Canada allowed me to understand where theory and practice diverge. I have journeyed to dark places, becoming comfortable with discomfort, confusion, complexity, nuance, and the spaces where there are no words. As I encountered crossroads in my own life, my understanding of what it means to be human, what it means to belong in community, and what it means to be a unique individual shifted, seeing the inter-connected tensions between suffering and grace, pain and joy, wonder and disillusionment. I returned to school completing a MDiv in clinical counselling.

As a therapist, I believe we all have strengths, resiliency, hurt, questions, and dreams. As we journey, I will see you. We will consider your past and connections to the present while looking forward. Together we will explore the invitation to have a new experience, to change and grow, to live differently.

It is these experiences that inform my approach to therapy: collaboration, integration, compassion, insight, and the treatment of trauma. I will join where you are. It is a privilege to be a part of your journey.
